Chimney Swifts spend most of their lives airborne. They can’t perch, so when they do land they cling to the vertical surfaces of chimneys, tree hollows or caves. They’re fixtures of summer evenings in the east, where they fill the skies with their aerial displays and high-pitched chatter. During fall migration, they roost together by the thousands, funneling into chimneys at dusk. If you don’t have a chimney, one thing you can do to help them is to build a swift nesting tower.
